Teacher Feedback

Zire you have provided a good analysis of a music video from a post feminist perspective. You are getting there in regards to catching up with work but by now the targets set in my last feedback should have been met. You should at this stage be using lesson time to work with your grpup on the ancillary tasks. You must therefore put in the time outside of lessons to finish all the tasks set.

Teacher Feedback

Zire you have made some good additions to the research and planning work, for example the lyric breakdown and suggested ideas for the style of your performer. You have also shown commitment and enthusiasm for the production work and that is encouraging. However you still have a fair bit of work outstanding that you must upload to this blog if you are to work beyond a level 2 for this aspect of the course i.e. further textual analyses that incorporates the key theoretical concepts Marxism and post  modernism. If you do this you will move into level 3.

Summary of Peer Feedback

There was a choice of three songs and this was the peer feedback given:

Song 1. Never Meant To Love You

  • The track lends itself well to narrative and performance based video.
  • The track is a hybrid genre
  • The video could end up be cliche
  • The track is a typical love song
  • Track appeals to predominantly females and to tackle this there could be alternative representations to female lead.
Song 2. Dreaming
  • Genre isn't typical therefore opens up different possibilities for narrative
  • Could appeal to both male and females
  • Lyrical content gives a lot to work with possibly too much
  • Appeals to a mainstream audience
  • Track is slow to pick up and starts on chorus therefore narrative might be difficult to follow
  • Risquee lyrical content as some lyrics are explicit
  • Some shots could explain the story
Song 3. The Gospel
  • Lends itself well to performance based video and conceptual based video
  • Catchy track
  • As the song isn't so upbeat it could be limiting
  • An image of the video instantly is seen when listening to the track
  • Length of track is too short, but adding an intro could combat this

Idea about intro and end of music video

The intro/ ending..  an idea we thought of as a group:
The intro script (one of us) speaks, this can be a voice in her head of her thoughts and whats going through her mind so the audience sympathises with her.

The women is being domestically beaten at home, and generally not being treated well by the man (when no one can see them)
but hes a right gentleman when they are out ... to make everything seem nice.

So the beginning of the video... (first verse)
- still keep in our smoking on the chair bit - I see it as her trying to kill/injure herself because all of the pain and depression the man is putting her through
-he then comes through the door...and sees her smoking and 'trying to injure' herself ...and get really mad and starts to hurt/beat her up
-while hes sleeping she gets up to run away..and runs out the house

Middle of the video ....

 (first chorus)
-slams the door on the beat of chorus...shots of her running down the road...always looking back
- he gets up earlier then normal ...sees shes gone!! (maybe she leaves a note) and he jumps out of bed and runs out to try and catch her
-whiles shes running...she see's him (but he dont see her) so she runs in a corner, shop, hiding place?? lool to hide from him
- we then see a shot of him running pass her (he doesnt notice its her) ..and she then runs in the opposite direction
- but this time he seen its her...the chase is on....LOOOL!

(Second Verse) ....
-purely devoted to her running away...crying, be ABSOLUTELY Paranoid about her man catching her,
- he sees her ..but this time is close... TENSION RISES... running after her

Ending (Last Chorus)
-hes still trying to chase her.. but this time they are literally feet away..but everyone keeps getting in the mans way
-till finally he actually grabs hold of her on one arm ...she then takes off the cardigan shes wearing to leave him just holding that!
- and finally gets on the train ("her escape to happiness") and he stands at the train doors ..staring at her as the train departs.....

or... similarly

-they can be running through an airport
- and she quickly makes it through pass check in.. leaving him on the other side
-(shes escapes) and all we hear is the sound of a plane taking off.... (which i put in the track attached)

Lyrics from our chosen track: Delilah - The Gospel

Until you ask yourself
Why you never felt this way before,
You're trying hard to wait
When you know its so long,
So much more
Because you're looking for something everyone finds
and all that keeps going 'round your mind
is things still aren't right
but right now they can't be wrong.
And so you slowly pull back
 your heart still in tact
excuses make up
 for things that you lack
Surrounded by lies 'till one day your on your own.
And so you win, so you run, but you cannot hide
You try to say what your voice denies.
Along the way mistakes that you've made,
you'll have to escape the troubles you may face.
And so you run but you cannot hide
You try to say what your voice denies.
Next time your kind, your left to decide
which way do you ride the answers in the gospel.
How can you fight the fear when it breaks you down and leaves you cold.
You could be far from here its the only place you can call home.
Because you're looking for something everyone finds
and all that keeps going 'round your mind
is things still aren't right but right now they can't be wrong.
And so you slowly pull back your heart still in tact
excuses make up for things that you lack
Surrounded by lies 'till one day your on your own.
And so you win, so you run, but you cannot hide
You try to say what your voice denies.
Along the way mistakes that you've made,
you'll have to escape the troubles you may face.
And so you run but you cannot hide
You try to say what your voice denies.
Next time your kind, your left to decide
which way do you ride the answers in the gospel.

Choice Of Our Track

Delilah - The GospelThis track was chosen because the peer feedback and the group discussion both had a clear image of many options for a narrative and the lyrical content lent itself well to certain ideas that the group had.

The track and the primary ideas for the video will also appeal to a both male and female target audience which gives room for creativity as there is a wider audience
